Experience A True Hippie Levitation

While the Hippie/Protesters’ attempt at levitation of the Pentagon in ’67 was unfortunately not successful, one night five years later in 1972 00individual was involved with one that was.

At 10 PM while closing up the Crane’s record store that 00individual managed on Pacific Coast Highway in Palos Verdes, California; a couple of co-workers’ friends showed up to set the stage for a supernatural evening.

After letting them in and locking the front door, someone suggested that the group of five, three females and two males, should attempt to physically levitate – which 00individual had heard of but hadn’t experienced, yet.

The solitude of the record store at night and of all the massive amounts of talent and creativity emanating from the bins and racks of records created just the right ambiance and everyone was totally and seriously into the vibe, which was crucial for success.

Here was their Occult procedure: there had to be five willing and dedicated individuals, essentially, true believers. One sits on an average non-folding chair, preferably wood (organic), the other four, after a brief ritual, place a predetermined single finger under and at the edge of the four-cornered (or equidistant) chair’s seat and levitate the chair and the fifth individual nearly above their heads with no effort!

The ritual was a simple one,
one of the five sits in the chair,
the other four choose which hand/finger they will use to levitate,
in counter-clockwise order, (to unite and initiate the group’s counter gravity mindset force) each individual places their open hands’ palms down out at arms’ length with each palm centered over and above the others, the very bottom hand is palm up (this traps the energy), each hand hovers above and below the next individual’s hand without touching with hands stacked four high,
silence and seriousness are golden, minds are focused, and soon each individual will feel rising heat in their palm and on top of their hand that increases in intensity, this can happen relatively quickly,
when all four agree that the heat/time/vibe is right, all four individuals place their predetermined single finger in position just under the corners of the chair and effortlessly levitate the fifth individual and chair nearly above their heads.

They were so successful at levitating the first person with only four single fingers that they each took turns being levitated! Male or female, size or weight, it didn’t matter all were successful and equally amazing feats!

After much giddy fun, 00individual set the alarm and locked the back door of the store and they all “levitated” into the night.

This is a perfect example of mind over matter and shows that the apparently impossible is in fact possible. All those stories where a mother literally lifts a car to free her trapped child are examples of the supernatural strength everyone has within them that is available during times of extreme stress – and during times of the joining of like minds, focused on a goal.

There are scenes with glimpses of people doing this in the 1987 movie “The Gate” and in the 2013 movie “This Is The End”.

00individual considered trying this with a group of very talented but jaded young co-worker dudes in an R&D sector back in 2009 but was aware of their youthful too-hip cynicism and knew it would never happen.

Which once again says a lot for the state of mind that the Counter-Culture was in back then – they were united and truly believed that anything was possible – and it was – through their efforts they helped end a war.

THE PSYCHEDELIC TRAIN

Representing and celebrating 00’s monthly 50th Anniversaries of ’67, ’68, ’69, ’70, ’71, and now of ’72, The PSYCHEDELIC TRAIN takes a well-deserved break from righteously runnin’ the Rails of Unreality for like, ever, and is presently in secret underground R&D labs and cosmic machine shops for various upgrades and experimental ju ju.

So, 00 thought that it might be fun to view a retrospective of the many modes, transformations, and psychedelic trips the Psych Loco has experienced over the decades.

The Birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll coincided with the Birth of 00individual!

The single, “Rocket 88” by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats is widely considered by many distinguished and respected Rockers to be the first Rock ‘n’ Roll record.
Although it was Ike Turner and his band the Kings of Rhythm who were backup to Jackie Brenston’s vocals, it was credited to Jackie Bernston and the Delta Cats.

During the recording session, in the attempt to “fix” a damaged amp that fell, and so as to protect the cone, newspapers were packed in the amp – and out came the first distortion / fuzz tone in Rock!  Everyone liked the effect and left it in the master recording.

This seminal record was released by Sam Phillips in March 1951 –
00individual was born in late February 1951 – less than one month earlier.
That’s right, the Birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll coincided with the Birth of 00individual.
That makes a whole lotta sense regarding 00’s mania for music, and for Rock specifically.

Jus’ sayin’.

But wait, let’s move forward in time, “ROKIT 88” was the New Jersey license plate as seen on HB 88, the jet-car driven by Buckaroo Banzai in the excellent cult 1984 film, “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension” starring Peter Weller and John Lithgow. This film is a stone 00 favorite, full of cosmic fun, enjoyment, and entertainment.

BB’s band, The Hong Kong Cavaliers, perform a rendition of Rockit 88 on stage at a club early in the film.

But it is this last bit of stream of connected consciousness that tears at 00’s heart whenever he remembers it.

At the end of the movie credits there is a “Hero Walk” of all of the cast members done to trippy uplifting music

A couple of years later, 00, his wife and six year old son visited the historic Marineland of the Pacific. It was a place 00 went to often as a child, and it was unfortunately in the last throes of closing down.

The park was seriously near empty that day, it was an eerie feeling to experience Marineland so desolute with  just a few last attendees before closing down forever.

But then 00 heard familiar music coming from the main Dolphin arena – it was the end credits theme of “The Aventures of Buckeroo . . .”, just mentioned.

With the music playing, they walked down to the edge of the huge pool/tank, when a couple of Dolphins swam up to them wanting to play, and with their nose tossed a ball to them.

There were no staff employees around, so 00 and family were surprisingly thrilled and tossed the ball back and forth. And after a few minutes of play, 00’s heart sank, he could feel the interactive joy these incredible beings had. The stadium that was once filled with applauding attendees that obviously was appreciated by the Dolphins, had been reduced to the three humans before them.

With their willingness to comunicate and play it was all 00 could do to not stay and have spent the rest of the day there with them.
Eventually several other Marineland attendees came down to join the fun and the three said goodbye to their new Dolphin friends to let others enjoy their company.

00 was joyful, but sad; Marineland would soon be no more – and 00 had to say goodbye to these intelligent, loving beings. It was a bittersweet and eternally memorable experience that still brings tears.

AMEN!

DAVE CLARK 5 plus 6 = Top 11 Hits!

GLAD ALL OVER--THE DAVE CLARK FIVE (NEW ENHANCED RECORDING) 720p - YouTube

DAVE CLARK 5 plus 6 = Top 11 Hits!

During the ramp-up and peak of the British Invasion, the Dave Clark 5 racked up hit after hit and were one of the most commercially successful acts of the British Invasion, releasing seventeen top 40 hits in the US between 1964 and 1967.

They were the only band to truly give the Beatles competition – they knocked the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand” off the top of the UK Singles Chart with their smash hit “Glad All Over”.

Their sound was powerful, solid, with rockin’ and reelin’ organ, blastin’ and wailin’ sax, concussive drivin’ drums, and with equally anthem-like lyrics and with a perfect lead vocalist, as well as rousing group vocals – and all within the Pop Rock genre. But most of all, these guys were having fun, it is joyfully evident in the live videos below.

The DC5:
Dave Clark – backing and occasional lead vocals, drums (1959–1970; 1970–1972, Dave Clark and Friends spinoff group)
Mike Smith – lead vocals, keyboards (1961–1970; 1970–1973, Dave Clark and Friends spinoff group; died 2008)
Lenny Davidson – backing and occasional lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitars (1961–1970)
Rick Huxley (ex the Riverside Blues Boys, the Spon Valley Stompers) – backing vocals, bass guitar, rhythm guitar (1959–1970; died 2013)
Denis Payton (ex the Renegades, the Les Heath Combo, the Blue Dukes, the Mike Jones Combo) – backing and occasional lead vocals, tenor and baritone saxophones, harmonica, rhythm guitar (1962–1970; died 2006)

DC5 were experts at covering classic songs – and with pure enthusiasm – made them their own.

00individual wishes that everyone could have been there, the moment that these songs, as well as songs by the Beatles and all of the British Invasion songs unfolded. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience. It was an innocent time, it was a fun time, some even called it a magical time – 00 does.

Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band – Exceptional!

Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band – RCA Victor APL1-1504 – 1976

If you were a true all-around music lover it was hard to escape the infectious beat of Disco.
As a Rocker 00 never had disdain over this genre, he’d just rather listen to Rock, like the Stones, whom by the way, successfully succumbed to the Disco craze with “Miss You”.

There was a lot of good that came from the Disco era; great instrumentals, classic anthems, and many songs with irresistible beats that were designed to get one up and dancin’.

While the BeeGees songs from the film “Saturday Night Fever” produced hit after hit and kept the Disco Ball rollin’, there was a very talented and equally prolific band that surely riveled any and all of the era’s Disco hitmakers.

Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band was a Big Band and Swing-influenced Disco band.
Formed in the Bronx, New York by Stony Browder Jr., and half-brother Thomas Browder, and with excellent vocals by Cory Daye, they became one of the most original musical ensembles of the Disco era.

Each song has “hit” quality and with seamless blends of genres it is one great solid album!

I’ll Play The Fool 4:47
Hard Times 4:12
Cherchez La Femme / C’est Si Bon 5:44
Sunshower 4:04
We Got It Made / Night and Day 3:46
You Got Somethin’ / Betcha’ The Love Bug Bitcha 5:40
Sour And Sweet/Lemon In The Honey 6:03.

A very talented group:
Stony Browder Jr. – music, piano, vocals (1976–79, 1984)
Thomas Browder aka August Darnell – lyrics, bass, vocals (1976–79) later as King Creole and the Coconuts
Cory Daye – vocals (1976–79, 1984)
Mickey Sevilla – drums (1976–79, 1984)
Andy Hernandez aka Coati Mundi – percussion (1976–79) later as King Creole and the Coconuts

00 has listened to this album countless times, and it’s always a pleasure, never gets old, raises spirits, and eventually becomes a joyfully memorized sing-a-long. Perfect for weekend afternoon pick-me-ups – if needed – or anytime, day or night – a real fun energizer!

Although known internationally, and with the number-one US dance hit “Cherchez La Femme/C’est si bon”, Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band is yet another perfect example of an Overlooked Gem.

However, if listened to closely you will hear many “samples” procured from this album in others’ hits – somebody’s been listening – and if 00, in his limited exposure to today’s music hears it, then Doc S’s music surely must be carrying many others’ songs as well.
Makes total sense.

They can cherry-pick but they can’t duplicate – which is why they “sample”.

In the ’90s it was the same thing, 00 would recognize some songs coming from his son’s room down the hall – samples of ’60’s and the ’70’s Classic Rock within any number of ’90’s genres.

00 is not a hard ass about sampling, in fact, check out this 00 fave:
