Let’s travel back to the turbulent ’60s and ’70s and relive the blessed cultural upheaval that was, well, a trip, in every way possible.
00 was part of the Counter-Culture and experienced what now can be looked upon as Paradise Unbridled – personal freedom was contagious and the worst a Counter-Culturist, Hippie, Student, Rocker, or Individual really only needed to worry about was getting busted, drafted, and well, what Sonny has to say:
“Why can’t I be like any guy
Why do they try and make me run
Son of a gun, now,
What do they care
About the clothes I wear
Why get their kicks from making fun, yeah,
This world’s got a lot of space
And if they don’t like my face
It ain’t me that’s going any where, no
So I don’t care
Then laugh at me
If that’s (un)fair
I have to beg to be free
Then baby laugh at me
And I’ll cry for you
And I’ll pray for you
And I’ll do all the things
That the man upstairs says to do
I’ll do ’em for you
I’ll do ’em
I’ll do ’em all for you
It’s gotta start some place
It’s gotta start some time
I’ll make that other cheek mine
And maybe the next guy
That don’t wear a silk tie
He can walk by and say hi
Say hi, instead of why?
Instead of why?
Instead of why, baby?
Instead of why?
Why, what did I do to you?
Why, I don’t know why . . .”
Long hair? Colorful clothes? Individuality? Wow.
Wouldn’t it be nice to return to those days, when even tho’ outward appearances (and some ideologies that went with them) initially tore families and generations apart – it was personal, although nationwide, worldwide, still personal – issues each end of the Generation Gap and all in between needed to experience at that time in history.
Seems petty now.
Will today’s insanity be viewed as petty in the future? Will anyone know the difference?
However, viewed with a psychedelic eye these weren’t the good ol’ days, these were beyond that, these were glorious, historic, exhilerating once-in-history days.
Days when one was only limited by their imagination.
Days when good and evil were easily defined.
Days when it was a thrill to be alive.
Days when things got done.
Days when there was excitement in the air – all of the time.
Days of spirited conversation and many once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Days of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll.
Days that turned into nights in white satin.
Days when a smile or nod from a total stranger, but a tribe member, imbued an uplifting real sense of brotherhood, and love.
00individual is very proud to be one of the Love Generation. That title says a lot when recognized as such historically, because it was absolutely true, for a while.
Wouldn’t it be nice to return to those days.
Power To The People!
