EXPERIENCE ROCK HISTORY and COUNTER CULTURE VIBES!
Back when we were all young, and by that I mean ALL of us, any generation, there would come a time when we first received an honest, no-strings-attached gift from a stranger. That immediately became a karmic-linked even-if-only-for-the-moment experience. And the feeling made us smile and was probably the first time any of us felt the Brotherhood of Man. Even if it was a shared piece of cookie or candy bar; it was called sharing, and it was meaningful. And it had an innate unconditional-love feeling to it.
However, we grew up in a climate of desired territorial possessions, and material things kept under lock and key.
Then, as if chosen by the Gods, in the mid-’60s a magical life-force became part of the Counter Culture. It spread organically, and the life-force was Marijuana and it humbled the ego and opened the heart and triggered personal spiritual growth and awareness in a world of material consumption and dogma indoctrination. And of course, it was a constant companion that provided cosmic laughter with kick-ass fun and high adventure!
Marijuana exposed insincerity and collapsed ego-walls to allow us enjoyment of a whole new world of interaction. That interaction would surface in something as simple as “turning on” a total stranger – by sharing a joint.
The term “Turn On” popularized/capitalized by Timothy Leary’s “Turn On, Tune In and Drop Out” philosophy, became a general term in regard to enlightening someone on a subject, a philosophy, a book, a movie, an album or getting them high with a nice bowl of hash, or a tab of acid, mescaline or psilocybin.
Another Turn On was hitch-hiking; a highly-social interactive normal mode of transportation. Driver or hitch-hiker – we were all on the same side – as drivers we wanted to help out a Brother or Sister in need of a ride and if you were “thumbin'” a ride to your destination, there was always a van of freaks or a loner in a VDub Bug happy to have another passenger.
And then there was the sexual Turn On; which was the ultimate in sharing.
We really got to experience how much better it was to give than to receive – and usually through non-material ends.
Please remember that when speaking about those days, 00individual paints with a wide brush, within the ambient vibe there were many detailed dark negative situations but they somehow were kept at bay by some cosmic source of protection. We were blessed. We never got busted. Never O.D.’d. and even though we were seen as outlaws by society, and actually were due to unjust laws, we were not criminals.
The mutually beneficial high of sharing a joint served as a catalyst for unity – acknowledgment that we were young, we had the numbers, it was our new world and we would prevail. To quote HST; ” . . . that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave.…”
However, times change and the decades passed, and the experiences of concern or consideration of or for another human appears less and less as the oppressive calculated politically-correct terrorist climate of fear makes most people avoid any kind of live interaction. Sad, but understandable.
But recently, 00individual got to experience that warm, cool thrill of a Turn On once again.
On the East Coast there is a Brother, if6ws929, who 00individual never knew until a couple years ago. Both Trippers experienced the same strange exciting journey at the same age through Historic Rock ‘n’ Roll Space and Time with Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll – only 00individual was on the West Coast. There’s a reason they never crossed paths back in the day – they would have definitely had way too much fun, maybe more fun than humans are allowed.
This sense of understanding and the fact that Brotherly Love still exists proved itself by a righteous 2014 out of the blue Turn On by if6ws929.
if6ws929 is well-known as the Mentor to the World’s Most Interesting Man, ’60’s Counter Culture Authority and Savant for all things Cool – and Highly-Valued Contributor to this blog.
