EXPERIENCE ROCK HISTORY!
JIMI HENDRIX – ELECTRIC LADYLAND – October 25, 1968
Here we have one of the Top 69 Historic & Classic 1960s Rock Albums
and within the Top 20 in 00individual’s entire Rock ‘n’ Roll World.
. . . and there we were, witnessing the birth of Electric Ladyland. In late ’68 we were chosen to connect to a higher level of Sophisticated Psychedelic Sounds. Shit got primal with deep emotion as Hendrix carved arcane history with his supernatural ax.
Not-so-strangely, Electric Ladyland served as an actual place, a safe harbor, a place we could call home. The sounds struck spiritually-soothing chords within us – the first true excursions into Psychedelic Soul – Hendrix was the original, Hendrix was the best.
Jimi’s vibe and music attended many Mescaline-powered adventures – and with LSD just around the corner in ’69, Hendrix assisted in the enjoyment of many Acid Trips. Truth is, Hendrix was the destination for many Acid Trips – see “I Was A Psychedelic Chew Toy“.
Even though every track has been lovingly memorized, Electric Ladyland always sounds new and as time passes outranks decades of other “hot” releases that soon fade while Hendrix’ four studio album releases continue to rise.
00individual is listening to this massive monster double LP right now while writing this post in an altered state as always and remembers vividly the first time hearing the album and feeling Empowered.
Rock’s best achievement is its ability to invigorate your mind, body and soul – we all know that feeling. But then there are those albums where Rock surpasses its inherent purpose and becomes a healer and ultimately reaches a place within that stimulates a self-assured feeling of confidence that can lead to action on any front. Electric Ladyland achieves this level with mind-melting Rock that is full of fiercely-strong world-shattering cosmic epics to hauntingly soulful beautiful tracks that are magically Empowering.
Most Hendrix fans will gravitate toward sides 1, 3 and 4 and rightfully so, but side 2 has a singular heart-rending track that has always connected to a very special place within 00individual; “Burning of the Midnight Lamp”.
This soulful three and a half minutes of Hendrix Wah-Wah Nirvana just kills me, it’s like a shot of soulful adrenaline. There’s a lotta pain goin’ on yet there’s a heroic yearning that prevails that is at once melancholy, truly inspirational and powerfully-driven. This track is unfortunately lost among the other iconic sides.
