  1. Hello – After reading this post, I have spent quite a while trying to cross-reference/locate “Mantovani – Grand Canyon Suite” on CD/LP. I have “searched” under Grofe, On The Trail, etc… – but can’t seem to find Mantovani’s performance of this track that you referred to?.. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Regards…

    • A cursory scan of Mantovani’s discography doesn’t show the Grand Cyn. titled but may have been on a side-only LP. I love a mystery!
In any case it was Ferde Grofe’s music that was what tripped us out – it has some amazing passages.
Thanks for the attendance, much appreciated.

    • 101 Strings released a Grofe/Grand Cyn version in 1969 so maybe that was the “Mantovani” -type music,( but not actually by the Man) album we were listening to. Not to compare either but back then orchestral easy listening music was popular and kinda included Andre Kostelanetz, Ferrante and Tischer, Mantovani, Vaughn Williams and 101 Strings.

    • You have excellent taste!
Yes, absolutely exquisite music and environments that suited the film perfectly.
Capturing an LSD / drug induced trip on film is extremely hard, many tried, but Performance and Depp/Thompson/Gilliam’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas were the only two to have touched on moments of truth.
Than you for your time and continued attendance – it’s much appreciated!

      • You’re very welcome! I love reading your posts as I wrote a novel about these very times/experiences: “Red, White & Blues” by L.V. Sage. It is available on Amazon. I am currently working on a sequel. I also love “Fear & Loathing in LV”. That scene in the revolving bar is a bit too close to home!
