  1. What a great post! So sad that the small record store is no more and that people today may never know the sense of home that these oasis provided.

    • Thanks!
Oasis, what a perfect term. It was almost like in every town you could slip in to a record store and get the same tribal vibe. Pretty trippy, indeed.

  3. I worked at Tower Records in El Toro, CA (now called Lake Forest) from 1984-1999. Such great memories-the best place to be working in your teens & twenties!!

    • Back in the early ’70s I was a Rack Jobber; see post
“1960s – 1970s Culture Archives ADVENTURES as an L.A. RECORD RACK JOBBER! VINYL! 8-TRACK! . . CASSETTES! 1972-1973” and one of my accounts was the El Toro marine base mall and the LTA base nearby.
Small world. And yes, the best, what other job had new releases to look forward to every week?

      • Awesome! Yes, it is a small world, especially now with the internet & being able to connect with people all over!! I was the very last LP buyer at El Toro. We used to wear buttons that read: “Save the LP”!!
