EXPERIENCE ROCK HISTORY!
JEFF BECK – “RICE PUDDING” – June 1969
from the album “Beck-Ola”
Two icons in one: Brigitte Bardot holding a bowl of Jeff Beck’s “Rice Pudding” circa 1969; which was an epic fantastic year full of unprecedented personal and cultural landmarks. Groovy.
After Jeff Beck’s perfect ’68 “Truth” album came his ’69 follow-up, “Beck-Ola”. This rousing rocker had all the ingredients of Truth; just not the magick. Great songs, great titles, Rod, Ronnie, Tony and Nicky Hopkins performing like Top Guns, but even though it felt like an honest second album effort there was something missing.
00individual has a pretty good gauge for these things but sometimes that elusive element or elements are undefinable and yet are what make a great album excellent and an excellent album a Historic Classic. In this case expectations were high and that may have interfered with “the magick”.
However, “Beck-Ola” does deliver a massive saving grace in this Jeff Beck Epic Historic and Classic Album Track Gem:
Jeff Beck — guitars
Rod Stewart — vocals
Nicky Hopkins — piano and organ
Ronnie Wood — bass
Tony Newman — drums
