BLODWYN PIG – DEAR JILL – August 1969
from the album “Ahead Rings Out”
Jethro Tull’s late ’68 debut album release “This Was” continued our truly amazing era of incredibly creative sounds and was a big fave among the group I ran with back then. We were really gettin’ into the English Blues and with Ian Anderson’s rockin’ flute manipulations and Mick Abraham’s guitar – he rips up “Cat’s Squirrel” – this unique new take on the Blues and Rock, was, well, a trip!
Unfortunately, Mick and Ian had irreconcilable differences regarding which direction their second “Tull” album should take, so Mick left and formed the less progressive more Blues Rock band, “Blodwyn Pig”.
“Dear Jill” from Blodwyn Pig’s debut album “Ahead Rings Out” lays down pure Blues with seductive guitar, sexy sax and a melancholy but determined Mick singing a Dear Jill (John) letter.
This Album Track Gem shines and transcends from a regular Blues number
up to the highest eschalons of Blues Rock; Blodwyn Pig’s “Dear Jill“.
