JACKIE LOMAX – HOME IS IN MY HEAD – 1971
from the album “Home Is In My Head”
Well, here’s a little bit of synchronicity: 00individual was reading an old Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock ‘n’ Roll from A to Z (00individual never stops his musical education) and was up to the “L” section and came across the “Jackie Lomax” entry which immediately triggered this personal fave Album Track Gem.
So, I go to load the track into this post and find that Lomax, several days ago on September 15, 2013, moved on to a new plane of existence at the classic age of 69 – and while these convergences were not on the day of his death, it is a synchronistic sign to honor his work.
Back in ’71 00individual was immediately intrigued by the album’s title, “ HOME IS IN MY HEAD” and gave a promo copy a spin and with the cool sounds of the title track fell into the groove of the lyrics and the Rock.
Lomax had a voice that lent to a Blues-Ballad Rock and the Beatles must’ve liked his sound as they signed him to their Apple label.
Lomax’ main band before going solo with Apple was “the Undertakers” – a great band name.
The George Harrison track “Sour Milk Sea” from Lomax’ debut 1969 “solo” album “Is This What You Want?, was basically a “Beatles/Harrison” tune with Jackie on vocals.
Another notable Album Track Gem from the same album is an uptempo barnstormer entitled, “The Eagle Laughs At You’”. This was recorded by the ad hoc power trio of Jackie on bass and rhythm guitar, George Harrison on lead “and a couple of overdubs” and drummer Tony Newman from “Sounds Incorporated” – “he really filled out the sound,” says Jackie. “In the middle of it, there was some guy who was sweeping up the studio who played the cornet, so we got him on it and overloaded it so that it sounds like a bloody elephant screaming through the place.”
So in commemoration, 00individual will make this a “Double Album Track Gem” and include the raucous Heavy-Metal-tinged Rocker “The Eagle Laughs At You“
– at no extra cost to the listener!
1944 – 2013
This is an actual painting done by hand with the use of real paint and real brushes.
This is the cover of Jackie Lomax’ “Three” album and being an artist, 00individual had to have it – photo-realistic painting was not the influential high-profile art style / genre that it eventually became; so back in 1971 this was a real piece of art.
JACKIE LOMAX SPEAKS TRIBAL TRUTH:
